- Cook the macaroni according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth. Cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring constantly, until thickened.
- Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheese until melted. Add salt and pepper.
- Return the cooked macaroni to the pot and stir to coat with the cheese sauce.
