Servings: 12 sliders
Course: Appetizer, Main Course
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

For the Sliders
  • 12 Dinner rolls Hawaiian sweet rolls or similar
  • 1/2 cup Butter melted
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Black pepper
For the Caramelized Onions
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 2 Large yellow onions thinly sliced
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
For Assembly
  • 8 ounces Gruyère cheese shredded

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Baking dish
  • Knife
  • Cutting board

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. To caramelize the onions, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add the sliced onions and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 25-30 minutes, or until the onions are soft, deeply golden brown, and sweet. Remove from heat.
  3. While the onions are caramelizing, prepare the butter mixture. In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Slice the dinner rolls horizontally, keeping them connected if possible. If they are individual rolls, arrange them in the baking dish.
  5. Spread the caramelized onions evenly over the bottom half of the rolls. Sprinkle the shredded Gruyère cheese over the onions.
  6. Place the top half of the rolls over the cheese. Brush the tops of the rolls generously with the prepared butter mixture.
  7. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 15 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the tops of the rolls are golden brown.
  8. Let the sliders rest for a few minutes before pulling them apart and serving.

Notes

You can add a thin slice of ham or turkey to each slider before adding the onions and cheese for a heartier option.
