Method
- In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, yeast, and granulated sugar. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- Stir in the melted butter and eggs into the yeast mixture.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- While the dough is rising, prepare the filling. In a small bowl, mix together the apple butter, cinnamon, and brown sugar.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Roll the dough into a large rectangle, about 12x18 inches.
- Spread the apple butter mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a small border on one long edge.
- Starting from the long edge with the filling, tightly roll up the dough. Pinch the seam to seal.
- Cut the roll into 12 equal slices. Place the slices cut-side up in a greased baking dish.
- Cover the baking dish and let the rolls rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While the rolls are baking, prepare the glaze. Whisk together the powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Add more milk if needed to reach desired consistency.
- Once the rolls are out of the oven, drizzle the glaze over the warm rolls.
Notes
You can add chopped nuts like pecans or walnuts to the filling for extra texture. Serve warm.
