- 1 small onion, finely chopped

- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for serving
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to your spice preference)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Fresh basil leaves, for garnish
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to package directions until al dente. Reserve about 1 cup of pasta water before draining.
- While the pasta is cooking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened and translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
- Stir in the tomato paste and cook for 2 minutes, allowing it to caramelize slightly. Next, pour in the heavy cream and add the red pepper flakes. Stir to combine and bring the sauce to a simmer. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Add the cooked pasta to the sauce and toss to coat evenly. If the sauce is too thick, add a little of the reserved pasta water until it reaches your desired consistency. Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese. Serve immediately, garnished with fresh basil leaves and extra Parmesan cheese.
