Ingredients
Scale
- 1 beef striploin steak (about 1–1.5 inches thick)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons butter (optional, for basting)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional, for basting)
- Fresh herbs like thyme or rosemary (optional, for basting)
Instructions
- Take the beef striploin steak out of the refrigerator 30 minutes before cooking and pat dry.
- Drizzle steak with olive oil, then season generously with kosher salt and black pepper.
- Heat a cast iron skillet over high heat until smoking hot.
- Place the steak in the hot skillet and sear for 2-3 minutes per side, until a dark, golden-brown crust forms.
- Transfer the skillet to a preheated oven at 400Β°F (200Β°C). Bake for 5-7 minutes for medium-rare (130-135Β°F), or until desired doneness is achieved.
- Optional: Add butter, minced garlic, and fresh herbs to the skillet during the last few minutes of baking, basting the steak with the melted butter.
- Remove from oven and let rest on a cutting board for at least 10 minutes.
- Slice the steak against the grain and serve immediately.
Notes
- Use a meat thermometer to ensure steak is cooked to your desired level of doneness.
- Don’t overcrowd the skillet when searing.
- Experiment with different seasonings and herbs to customize the flavor.
- Pair with roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or a fresh salad.
